Arry and Nimeria

Lake Chapala x Scott's G

Arry and Nimeria and a male and female garter snake found in Mexico. These snakes are quite rare in captivity and, indeed, the world as they are only found at Lake Chapala and these ones have been crossrbred with a Scott's garter snake. It is a real treat that we have them and I am sure you'll agree they are stunning.

All garter snakes are venomous but they are rear fanged. This basically means it is their rear fangs that inject the venom and in order for them to do so they have to physically chew on their prey to work the venom through the fang and into their food. This means they are harmless to humans as they would feel too vulnerable trying to chew on us as we are bigger than them and they will never grow to a size that we could not overcome.

Arry in particular is an absolute machine when it comes to feeding time. They are rather fancy eaters as they love bits of salmon. These snakes are communal so they are the only 2 that we house together and they are always found with one another. Hopefully it is a match made in heaven!
